History
In history Hank has learned about the pilgrims, the revolutionary war, the civil war. We have created a wagon train and made hard tack. We also went to Ft. Clatsop. So I asked him today what he remembered and here it is.
The pilgrims found this place. The came from England because they hated the rules there. The Boston Tea Party started a war.
The Constitution is the rules. George Washington was the first president.
Lewis and Clark were sent by Jefferson to find the Pacific Ocean.
The civil war was between the north and south. Lincoln was the president. He died. They were fighting over slaves. The slaves won.
Reconstruction moved the slaves north to bring the country together
The flag has 13 strips for the colonies and 50 stars for the states.

For Hanks 'research paper' we did a lot of reading and watching you tube videos. He had to choose the things he thought were most important then write his own sentences about them. Then he had to decide what went together to make paragraphs. He typed the paper himself and posted it to his blog all by himself. I was going to get his sister to help.
Last night after he posted to his blog he found a website that told him all the Thomas and Friends character names in Hawaiian.

Second Grade
As part of Hanks school we use the book Everything Your Second Grader Needs to Know. There is a test in it that we use at what I think should be the end of each grade. Yesterday he took the test and got 81% on it. He did a little better in math than reading but still good enough to go on to third grade.

The States
Hank has now drawn a map and flag and read about each state. My thought was to cut them out and put them together to create the map of the U.S. Not sure if that will really work.
The Last 10 States Including Washington D.C!
We Did Ten / Eleven States The 11TH One Is Washington D.C! Anyway

Moms turn
Today Hank wrote his first journal entry. Not sure how this is going to work out. He was to write about what he did in school today. We are reading about each state and drawing a map and will eventually put them together to create our own map of the U.S.
